CFR, the Cape Fear Region’s “Voice of Real Estate”, protecting the private property rights for local real estate consumers while enhancing the individual careers of its 2400 members, installed their 2018 President, Fred Gainey.
After retiring as a Captain with the Wilmington Fire Department, Fred Gainey started his Real Estate career, becoming a second-generation REALTOR®. Fred has always believed in helping others as a Firefighter, and being a REALTOR® was a great way to continue this work. For nearly ten years, he has worked as a Sales Agent, Broker-in-Charge, a Compliance Director and the newly appointed Broker-in-Charge at Buy Coastal Real Estate, where he specializes in commercial and residential real estate.

Fred is a well-respected leader in our local real estate industry and is a very active member of the Wilmington community. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the North Carolina REALTORS® Association and the 2018 Vice Chairman of the NC REALTORS® Risk Management Advisory Board. He also serves as a Board Member of the Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority (WAVE) and the New Hanover County Special Board of Equalization and Review. Fred has received designations as a Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI), Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource (SFR®) and Workforce Housing Specialist (WHS).
Fred believes education is a crucial component for all REALTORS®. He enjoys instructing new agents as they enter the real estate industry. Fred provides professionalism and knowledge to all his clients. After living here for over 47 years, he TRULY knows our area.
